When Sarnia Carers first started visiting my dad, he was reluctant to have any outside support.

A fiercely independent gent with a wonderful sense of humour, he was convinced he could manage everything himself as he is unaware of his Dementia.

What impresses me most is the carers’ kind persistence and their respectful, good-humoured approach. They began simply with social visits – sharing a chat and a cuppa, enjoying a bit of banter – and gradually built up his trust.

Step by step, they’ve been able to move on to important safety checks, like making sure the hob is turned off, the fridge hasn’t been unplugged, and that Dad has taken his medication.

More recently, they have even been able to help him with personal care such as bathing – something I never imagined he would accept.

Their gentle humour, patience, and genuine respect for his dignity have made all the difference. Instead of dreading their visits, Dad now looks forward to them.

I cannot thank Sarnia Carers enough for the support, reassurance, and kindness they have given both to my dad and to our family.

Kindest regards,

Yvette
